Use Templates
Learn how to use workflow templates
Templates
Templates are pre-built workflows that will give you a jump start to building out your workflows in Flomenco. We have created a set of templates for various workflows that you can use and modify. Just like a Word document template, pick the template you want to use and Flomenco will create a copy of the template for you that you can continue to modify for your own workflow.
You can also save an existing workflow as a template. Let's start by showing you how to use an existing template created by the Flomenco team.
Navigate to Templates
In Flomenco click on the Templates link on the left sidebar
Search Templates
If the template uses a specific node, you can filter templates by that node to find similar templates.
Select a Template
- Click on the template you are interested in using. This will show you the details of the template, including the apps involved in the workflow.
- Click on the "Use This Workflow" button. This action will take you to the workflow editor as normal.
In the editor, you can modify the template to suit your needs. Keep in mind that you will need to save your changes and it will appear in your list of WorkFlos.
If you attempt to navigate away without saving, you will be prompted to save your changes.
Copying Template Sections
If you prefer not to go through the save process immediately, you can simply copy sections or the entire template directly.
- Hover over the template, select the parts you need, and use Command-C (or Ctrl-C) to copy them.
- Then, paste them into an existing workflow you are working on. This method provides a quick way to integrate template elements without creating a new workflow from scratch!
Credentials Management
Note that when templates are saved, any credentials attached to nodes (like Airtable, Fabric, etc.) are stripped out. This ensures security and privacy.
When you open a saved template, you will notice these nodes are marked in red, indicating missing credentials. You need to re-add the appropriate credentials to these nodes.
Creating Your Own Template
If you have a unique workflow that you think could be reused, you can save it as a template. Here’s how:
Develop the Workflow
Create your workflow as usual within the workflow editor. Add all necessary nodes and configurations to meet your requirements.
Save as a Template
Once your workflow is ready, look for the option to save it as a template. This is in the options dropdown - labeled "Save as Template”
When saving, add a comprehensive description of what the workflow does and why it is useful. Include any steps and points to be aware of and you can also set a category.
Notes:
Credentials Stripping for Security
Be aware that when you save a workflow as a template, any credentials associated with nodes will be stripped out. This security measure ensures that no sensitive information is inadvertently shared.
To make it clear to users, you might want to include a note in the description that credentials need to be re-added when using the template.
Accessibility
Users within your organization or the community can now access and use your template. They will need to add the relevant credentials once they decide to use it.
Editing a Template
To edit a template you will need to open a template as a new workflow and then save it again as a template, with your modifications.
